Kadhwa which means embroidered is an exclusive technique of handloom weaving in the Varanasi region. It is an extremely intricate weave and could never be replicated on power looms.
Each motif in a design is woven separately, leaving no loose threads at the back of the fabric. As you can imagine, this technique is labour intensive and requires great skill and dexterity.
Two weavers sit side by side, only weaving approximately 10-15cm a day to produce our silk kadhwa cushions.
